In 2009, at 8.30 pm on March 28, people all around the world have been requested to turn their lights off for one hour.
What began as a Sydney initiative in 2007 has now become one of the world's largest climate change awareness initiatives * A global sustainability movement creating a vital conversation about the future of our precious planet.
This year globally recognized landmarks such as the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, Rome's Colosseum and the Sydney Opera House will be joined by the Eiffel Tower in Paris, leading 28 other French cities and towns.
Other iconic buildings that will switch off their lights for Earth Hour include the Table Mountain in Cape Town, Merlion in Singapore, CN Tower in Toronto, Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro and Millennium Stadium in Cardiff.
Earth Hour organizers around the world aim to connect with more than one billion people in more than 1000 cities to show that it IS possible to join together in a global effort to highlight our growing concern about climate change.
"Earth Hour is a plateau for change, an opportunity for all citizens to speak out and let it be known that they want action on climate change" WWF-France Director General, Serge Orru.
Earth Hour requires International, National, Regional, Corporate, Local Community, Family and Individual support to send out a message of hope to EVERYONE that TOGETHER * We can make a difference
